Xtreme Eating Awards: Pt 2!

Xtreme Eating Awards: Pt 2!

You should have just about had time to digest the list of  ‘winners’ of the Xtreme Eating Awards 2013, in our last article. However, that smorgasbord extreme entrees was not the full course in terms of big calorie spenders in the dining out world. While you might be able to guess that a certain dish is not exactly lean, low-fat cuisine, you might still be shocked at the fat stats of other meals that have been named and thus shamed for those watching their weight especially!

There’s no denying that at certain times a salad is not going to cut it and you are in desperate need of so-called comfort food. However, when does the warmth of a few extra calories turn into a stifling amount of fat to your system?into something a potential fat suit for the future? Do you remember the dishes highlighted in our first article?

  • IHOP’s Country Fried Steak & Eggs – 1,760 calories
  • Johnny Rocket’s Bacon Cheddar Double – 1,770 calories
  • Maggiano’s Little Italy 18 oz Veal Porterhouse – 1,900 calories
  • The Cheesecake Factory Bistro Shrimp Pasta – 3,120 calories

If you are aiming for a calorie-controlled diet then there’s really no comfort in these other high-fat feasts!

  1. Maggiano’s Little Italy Zuccotto Cake – If you’re not already sweet enough, a slice of this rich dessert will keep you sugary with four days’ worth of sugar, which is equivalent to 26 teaspoons of sugar. There’s also the 1,820 calories to contend with and 62 grams of saturated fat, which should be enough for 3 days!
  2. Chili’s Baby Back Ribs – Nobody has ever suggested that ribs are the dieter’s dream but a full rack with Shiner Bock BBQ sauce stacks up the calories at 1,660. Tasty they might be but low in fat they are not, with nearly two days’ worth of saturated fat at 39 grams. Forget sugar, sodium levels are at over three day levels with over 5,000 mgs. Ribs with Chili’s Homestyle Fries add another 400 calories onto a meal that now exceeds your daily calorie quota.
  3. The Cheesecake Factory Crispy Chicken Costoletta – This might be the type of dish you’d be tempted to choose if you didn’t want anything too heavy right? It comes with mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus so it can’t be that bad for you can it? If 2,610 calories sounds like the healthy option then go ahead! Along with your daily quota of calories you can add pretty much your whole working week’s worth of fat with 89 grams of saturated fat. Before you reach for the salt, you might want to know that there’s nearly enough sodium for two days too. with 2,720 mg.
  4. Uno Chicago Grill Deep Dish Macaroni & 3-Cheese – Come on, macaroni and cheese has to be the ultimate comfort food. However, on the scale of comfort versus overindulgence this dish is tipping toward overdoing it. Cheddar, Parmesan and Romano cheeses, a cream sauce and lots of butter create a 1,980 calories meal which is pretty much enough for the whole day. The saturated fat content of 71 grams takes you beyond today, into tomorrow, the next day and even part of the day after that in terms of not exceeding recommended fat guidelines. With 3,110 mg of sodium you have enough salt to last you a couple of days too!

A treat is nice to eat but with these excessive and extravagant calorie levels these dishes undoubtedly become far less appetizing. Do you have any tips for foods which taste indulgent but are nowhere near as fattening? Share your healthy meal ideas!
