Dishes Named for Xtreme Eating 2014!

Every year, a number of restaurants are revealed as the ‘winners’ of the Xtreme Eating Awards; with high calorife meals that are often shockingly high in fat, salt and sugar. This year’s shocker is a brunch dish that’s nearly 3,000 calories! And each year the indulgence-factor seems to be getting higher and higher. These are meals that the health-conscious will definitely want to avoid. What these awards highlight to anyone wanting to keep in shape is the need to think about nutrition. It’s a subject close to our fitness training here at Kaia and us Kaia girls are as passionate about eating a healthy diet as we are about working out. What’s definitely true is that as well as the food we prepare we also need to think twice before chowing down on restaurant servings.

How often do you eat out? Do you see a meal out as a special treat or do you often dine at restaurants for breakfast or lunch? Do you know what you are eating or do you simply try and guess what the healthier options might be? Perhaps your philosophy is to indulge when you are choosing from a menu? However, the fact is that meals which sometimes sound fairly low-fat can be rich in calories and those that sound like a simple treat can be unbelievably stacked with saturated-fats. Here’s a few from the Xtreme Eating Awards 2014:

Bruleéd French Toast at The Cheesecake Factory – Sound like a great brunch to start a relaxing Sunday? Well, you might be better spending the rest of the day working out if you want to burn off the 2,780 calories. The “extra thick slices of rustic French bread” grilled with bacon or grilled ham, dusted with powdered sugar and served with a maple-butter syrup, has nearly a week’s worth of fat and the 24 teaspoons of sugar is somewhat over the recommended daily amount of six teaspoons for women and nine for men! The sodium level pretty much reaches your daily amount too.

The Big “Hook” Up at Joe’s Crab Shack – What could be fattening about seafood? Well, how does 3,280 calories on a plate sound? Coming in at Number 2 for the Xtreme Eating Awards 2014 is a big platter of seafood and crab balls filled with cream cheese, beer batter fish and chips, coconut shrimp, crab stuffed shrimp, as well as cornbread ball and coleslaw. The 50 grams of saturated fat is plenty to fill up on the daily recommended intake of 20 grams for women and up to 30 grams for men and the sodium levels stretch to over 3 day’s worth.

Monster-Sized at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers – Is it really that much of a surprise that a burger comes in at Number 1 for the Xtreme Eating Awards 2014. This Monster-Sized A.1. Peppercorn gourmet burger comes with bacon, cheese and onion strings, as well as a Monster Salted Caramel Milkshake and as many fries as you want, and of course the serving of 3,540 calories. To get that into perspective that’s around two day’s worth of calories, over three day’s worth of saturated fat and over 2 day’s worth of sodium. Just for good measure there’s 38 teaspoons of sugar! If this monster meal isn’t enough to scare you then nothing is!
