10 Boot camp must-dos!

If you are one of many women who are considering joining our Kaia BRIK boot camp style program then well done! This means you are really taking your fitness seriously. However a boot camp involves fairly intense training and is not to be taken on lightly. Kaia BRIK is a six week program that is aimed at various targets such as weight-loss, strength and endurance, as well as flexibility and confidence! It doesn’t have to be a back-breaking slog if you follow some practical tips and some boot camp must-dos!

There’s no doubt about it that taking on any type of boot camp style training is far more daunting than randomly working out at the gym or taking the odd drop-in fitness class. You have to worry about how you can not only fit in with the others but how a boot camp will work for you and whether you can achieve what you want. What’s important to understand from the get-go is that much of the success of a boot camp comes down to you. It’s not something you can hang back in and coast through. Once you accept this then follow our top boot camp must-dos

  1. A challenge not a chore: There are many ways to look at almost any situation in life but you always need a little perspective. You can regard boot camp as a gruelling, even punishing thing to take on, but if you just see it as a challenge to overcome, then you’ll feel more motivated.
  2. Commit – don’t be flaky: An idea without a plan is just a dream. You have to commit. And this is not just about psyching yourself up to do battle with your body either. It’s far less dramatic. You need to get practical, clear some space in your diary and make sure your schedule fits in with training sessions.
  3. You’re wearing what?: Of course there’s no need to invest in the latest tech fitness gadgets or most up-to-date exercise wardrobe but you do need training gear that’s comfortable. Make sure you can move around in it and that what you wear suits the boot camp program. Think about what you will be doing and where you’ll be doing it and get a kit together that fits in every way.
  4. If you don’t believe you won’t receive: If you turn up at boot camp with the negative feeling that you’re going to get nowhere fast then you have a good chance of fulfilling your expectations of yourself. With support all around it’s also essential to keep your self-belief buoyant. If not, you might want to question what you can do to bolster your confidence or whether you are pursuing the wrong ambitions.
  5. Smile and be yourself: Bring your positive approach to your training sessions and don’t try and be somebody you’re not. It’s a negative way to regard yourself and your boot camp training may suffer if you start to feel like a square peg in a round hole of your own creation. Keep it real and be upbeat!
  6. Follow nutrition no-nos: Yes, it may sound a little ridiculous but there are plenty of people who see exercise as simply a way to combat a bad diet. This is not leading a balanced life but trying to minimize the impact of unhealthy habits. Change your diet if it is not a healthy one. You’ll feel better for it.
  7. Focus in but open out: Determination and single-minded focus are great attributes for honing athletic skills. However, in a boot camp you can still stay on target while embracing the dynamics within training sessions. Boot camp is better served by two-way communication.
  8. Ask yourself why you want and need boot camp: Be aware of what your impetus is and let this guide you. You don’t need to overcomplicate it. The reasons that have brought you to this point don’t necessarily need to be analyzed in depth but keep in mind the ‘why’ you are there and hold onto this when the going gets tough.
  9. Intense exercise doesn’t mean an intense attitude: Let’s face it, boot camps are not designed to be a gentle stroll in the park. They make you sweat and are physically energetic and intense. A boot camp can still be fun though and being too intense in your approach may bore you into giving up.
  10. Focus on your goals: Try writing down your ultimate goals or say them out loud each day, and certainly before a boot camp training session. Looking forward helps you to keep moving in the present.

The best tip to boot camp success though is to actually join a program and get started. We can show you where you need to go, why and how, so get in touch today.
