Work off that sweet cherry (or any other) pie

It’s the time of the year where pie becomes the official dessert of just about every occasion. Not only do these delicious treats make their way onto our plates, but they will also find a way to end up on our hips, belly and booty as unwanted fat. As ladies, we have worked far too hard this year to let a slice a pie be our undoing. Here’s how much exercise you will have to do in order to burn off the calories from that sweet cherry, or pumpkin or apple, pie.

Pumpkin Pie – 316 Calories per slice

We’ll start with one of the most common and healthiest pies on the list. Pumpkin is high in fiber, even in this creamy, sugary form. Of course, at 316 calories, healthy is a relative term, since there is still plenty of fat and saturated fat to be found in even the smallest piece. Depending on the ingredients, you can expect to find anywhere from 10 to 15 grams of fat in your slice.

How to work off the calories – Pumpkin pie is a very festive dessert, so why not work off those calories in another festive manner, by shopping? About two hours of shopping is enough for the average woman to burn the 316 calories found in a piece of pie. Just make sure the shopping involves more walking than stopping and buying! You don’t want to end up with a belly that is growing and a bank account that is shrinking.

Apple Pie – 411 Calories

We probably all have girlfriends that tend to think that, because apples are healthy (and apple pie has apples) it is somehow a healthy dessert. Sure, apples are the main ingredient in apple pie, but sugar and butter also play a starring role. We’ve seen quite a few healthier apple pie recipes out there, but these can only help so much. Your normal slice of apple pie will contain roughly 411 calories, and anywhere between 16 and 22 grams of fat.

How to work off the calories – We hope you like the treadmill, because you will likely need to use one the day after eating a slice of apple pie. It would take the average woman nearly 45 minutes of jogging on a treadmill to work off those 411 calories. An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a slice of apple pie at night means you need the treadmill to get right.

Cherry Pie – 486 Calories

When the band Warrant was singing about cherry pie, they weren’t kidding when they said it was a sweet surprise. There is over 100 grams of sugar in the average slice of cherry pie. And that is only the beginning: cherry pie also has an astonishing 486 calories, and 22 grams of fat. These numbers come down a bit if you substitute canned cherry pie filling with actual fruit but, even then, the level of fat and calories still isn’t very pretty.

How to work off the calories – There is more to burning calories than traditional fitness techniques. Instead of going to the gym to get rid of those calories, you can stay at home, grab your partner, and enjoy a steamy makeout session. An intense makeout session lasting at least an hour can burn nearly 500 calories. That just might be the only thing sweeter than a slice of cherry pie.

When eating pie, or any other sweet treats, don’t feel obligated to abstain completely. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a piece of pie as long as it is done in moderation. Avoid eating multiple slices of pie during a single sitting, and make sure you’re snacking on sugary treats throughout the day.
